The Best Way to Document Existing Buildings

Documenting existing buildings can be time consuming, but it doesn’t have to be. Learn how to use some of the newest technology applications from a variety of building documentation and recording experts. They’ll cover digital photogrammetry, GIS, laser scanning, BIM, and point cloud and show you how these applications can more efficiently document your needs. At the end of the workshop, you’ll know how to select the best tools for your projects and streamline your process.
Circulation Paths, Accessible Routes, & Path of Travel

Where and how pedestrians move throughout a space defines its accessibility. But not all ways are governed by the same rules and requirements. Architect and accessibility expert Janis Kent leads this half-day workshop designed to give you an in-depth look at the differences between and requirements for circulation paths, accessible routes, and path of travel. You’ll learn scoping and technical requirements for existing, new, and altered buildings and how to recognize the connectivity of elements like entries, floors, and exits and what each requires.

These two fast-paced half-day workshops cover business essentials small firms need to be successful and win more work. Designing Safer Schools

This interactive workshop, led by school-safety experts in architecture, engineering, and K–12 design, will show you how to design safer schools. You’ll explore different approaches followed by a deep dive into planning spaces that support well-being, mental health, and social-emotional learning. At the end of this workshop, you’ll be able to tailor your design approach to different school communities and use the power of design to reduce and prevent crime and other threats.
How Public Architecture Stands the Test of Time
Earns 7.5 LUs / HSW / RIBA
This all-day workshop consists of four sessions that explore design standards that ensure public architecture lasts for decades. The morning sessions will focus on several placemaking projects including San Francisco City Hall and the Transbay Terminal. The afternoon sessions will cover the influence of machine learning and AI and the zero-carbon challenge for buildings. You’ll leave this workshop knowing the most innovative approaches to historic preservation, including tech, seismic, and environmental upgrades.
